I agree on losing, but long term there is no way Norton can compete in anything at the district level. Crowder is a legit QB, but somebody has to catch it.

Norton/Clintwood will hold there own the next 2 or 3 years but I agree long term will be unkind (short term in anything other than football will be in the same bote starting next season

Spoke to a fellow from Alleghany County at the JJK-Honaker game today and he said a consolidation with Covington is in the works. The day of the small school is coming quickly to an end. Schools like J.I.Burton have some hard thinking to do.

I think as far as football is concerned and the fact Districts will mean nothing in football Burton will benefit greatly playing the new schools. Clintwood will also. Too bad the points gained will be no different than those that are D1. I could see Burton wanting to get out of the LPD if there was 5+ schools with enrollments greater than 700 but there are only two that will have enrollments like that. They will only have 3 District games in football leaving them with 7 out of district games. Winning the district will not give them that auto bid to the playoffs so the tougher the schedule the better off they will be in getting into the playoffs. With the new setup they are pretty much garunteed a spot in the playoffs no matter what but the tougher the competition the better off they will be once the playoffs do start. So that is where the new schools come in to benefiting them. Guess I am just rambling on with this but I just dont see how anyone can say being in the LPD in Football will kill Burton. I dont think it will hurt them in other sports either considering they are D1.

In a 4 team LPD it will not matter however looking forward 5 years or so in the future If they share a district with Union, Centrel, DC, Eastside, Lee there is no doubt that most years an injoury or 2 will affect Burton MUCH more than any other schools.

IMHO I agree that in the short term (This cycal and possably next) Burton will be fine (Football wise )

That being said I would love to see Burton stay in that there is potental for the LPD to again become the top district in reguards to football

I hate to be the first one to bring it up here but JIB might not exist in 5 years. I believe that if There is a new school in Wise near the highway that Norton will agree to consolidate the school system into the county system. I hope I'm wrong but that is what I believe will happen.

i think the only way norton would go into wise co is if a new school was built and like you said by the old walmart would prob be only way!
